Main strands of the algal research, including Cyanoprokaryota, are presented in a chronological order. The taxonomic composition of cyanoprokaryotic microorganisms, their importance as a part from the algal flora of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and the main problems caused by this group organisms are discussed.
