The suffixal form of the surname Czobanow, based on the noun czoban, is not characteristic of the anthroponymous system of the Polish language, although currently there are three people with the surname Czobanow living in Poland. Since the Polish language has assimilated the Turkish apelativum çoban via Wallachian or Ukrainian, in the Polish language naming system we are dealing with forms derived from czaban and caban. The author discusses the penetration of these appellatives into the Polish language, their geographical spread and ways of deriving surnames from them. She also draws attention to the abundance of the various forms.
