| dc.description.abstract | The article is devoted to the phenomenon of transonymization in two Slavic languages: Bulgarian and Croatian. The transition of one category of proper nouns to another affects many areas of life (the adoption of transferred names or zoonyms, anthroponymic names in the form of toponyms, the giving of personal names to commercial and service establishments or products, etc.). This process consists in the conversion of a proper name from one category into a proper name from another category, thanks to which transonyms are created, which are new, secondary proper names. An example of this is the transformation of the name of the Danube River into the name of the Bulgarian cream Danube, the Danube hotel in Croatia, or Danube Street in Krakow. The article examines the process of transonymization as a way of creating and maintaining Bulgarian and Croatian proper names in the urban space of the two Slavic countries, and presents the mechanisms of name-forming processes, the study of which could be continued and expanded in other Slavic languages. | |
