This paper investigates youth slang abbreviations in Bulgarian, utilizing the classification proposed by Ts. Karastoycheva. The research is based on empirical data collected from the online platform „www.bgjargon.com“. The findings reveal a notable preference among youth slang speakers for initialisms. These initialisms manifest in two subcategories: the origination of novel initialisms within the domain of youth slang and the reinterpretation of pre-existing initialisms from the standard language. Other means for abbreviation are also discussed, along with an exploration of the correlation between youth slang and internet slang and an examination of the semantic content of the data.
