| dc.description.abstract | This review attempts to summarize the available data on the climatic conditions and macrofungal diversity in the Central Balkan National Park (Stara Planina Mts) region in relation to the clarification of the ongoing climate changes. We provide a preliminary, literature-based checklist of macrofungi occurring in the marked ecological region, supplemented by original observations reported here for the first time. The total number of recorded macromycete species for the analyzed territory is about 338. The species composition, ecological-trophic structure, seasonality, and edibility of the larger mushrooms are briefly discussed. The attached list of identified species includes 47 edible wild mushrooms, as well as 22 larger fungi with conservation significance for the Bulgarian mycota, assessed according to the latest IUCN criteria. According to the Red List of fungi in Bulgaria and the Red Data Book of the Republic of Bulgaria, twelve (12) fungal species are endangered (EN), with three (3) species being of European importance. | |
