dc.description.abstractThe work presents an overview of empirical studies on the links between meaning in life and well-being. The first part presents the main conceptualizations of meaning, through constructs such as purpose, significance and coherence, as well as the self-regulating and motivational functions of meaning, through which influences on well-being are understood. Differences and levels in the search and achievement of meaning are traced, as well as the main sources in the search for meaning and their influences on well-being and health. The influences of meaning on happiness, resilience and coping with existential challenges, tragic optimism, positive relationships and satisfaction of belongings and significance, development of strengths and health, coping with pain, suffering and loss, longevity, healthy lifestyle and treatment of serious illnesses are discussed in detail. The relationships between meaning, loneliness, and feelings of rejection are discussed.
